Focused, intentional, and clarifying
Grounded in a deeper understanding of your experiences
Direct while being supportive and emotionally attuned
Contained with boundaries
And sometimes a ride on the “struggle bus” (let’s be real, therapy is hard work)
I’m intentional about finding a balance between supportive therapy and encouraging you to confront, explore, and sit in the discomfort (that’s where we grow!). If you’re someone who tends to deflect or avoid exploring certain areas that you want to heal, better understand, or attend to, then my approach could be a good fit! I do “push back” or challenge you if and when it feels developmentally appropriate and relevant to your goals. Particularly at the beginning, I will check in about how something landed so that I can make adjustments if needed! I hope that this journey together will be healing, enlightening, and empowering.
About Me
Welcome! My name is Nikki (she/her) and I am a postdoctoral psychology resident who is passionate about supporting healing and growth through authentic connection.
My personal experiences in addition to working alongside underserved members of the community, ultimately led to my specialization in attachment trauma, my commitment to expanding adoption-informed care for adult adoptees, continuing to strive for cultural competency, and being intentional about providing accessible, anti-racist, decolonized evidenced-based treatments that are neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ affirming.
My training/theoretical background is relational psychodynamic and relational-cultural, which emphasizes the importance of belonging and being in connection with others. It incorporates the influence of the intersection of self (e.g., identities) and environment (e.g., systems) across the lifespan. We live in a world where we are constantly being told who we “should” be, how we “should” act, and what “standards” we are expected to meet. This can be suffocating, damaging, confusing, and disempowering. These internalized messages shape how we relate to ourselves and with others. I work with individuals to heal, re/discover themselves, and live more freely in the spaces they navigate.
Danbi 단비
Danbi is a Korean word which translates to “sweet rain,” or a “timely/welcome rain” following a long drought.
It symbolizes hope, renewal, and growth.
